The Comeback Kid.
This lighter-bodied red from Serbia is composed of Kedarka, a crazy rare grape that once made up 60% of the vines in the Hungarian Kingdom. During the Communist Regime, the percentage of plantings fell to 1%, and the Mauer family has the oldest plantings in the world. A super tangy mix of bright red berries, dried rose hips and tart tomatoe sashay about in the bottle of living history.
- The Maurer family has been crafting wine on the banks of the Blue Danube for four generations now, with Oszkár Maurer currently leading the charge.
- Oszkár’s mission is to highlight indigenous Serbian varietals, making the wines as pure and natural as possible with minimal added sulfur.
- The Kedarka was fermented in open top vats, then raised in Hungarian oak for 12 months.
