from a Chenin Blanc specialist
Story: With the Chenin hallmark crunchy orchard fruit and plenty of minerality, this bottle lives up to its primaveral name. In a casual porch tasting against some more “serious” Vouvrays, the ‘Spring’ was the staff favorite for its lighthearted freshness.
- Winemaker Vincent Careme grew up in Vouvray in a winemaking family, and says he always knew he’d devote his life to making wine. He made his first vintage at age 14 and has traveled around the world exploring the various iterations of Chenin Blanc. He worked several harvests in South Africa, which is where he met his wife, Tania. (They now have a second label in South Africa, dedicated to expressing that terroir through Chenin.)
- Vincent is a fixture in the Loire, mentoring and consulting with other younger winemakers.
- The ‘Spring’ Vouvray is made from negoce fruit, grown by his friends. With an average age of 35ish years, he chooses vines owned by colleagues open to his collaboration and input during the growing season.
