Bust out this bold bad boi from the Duero.
Alfredo Maestro is no stranger to breaking rules within the Duero. Since 1998 he’s been making wine with “only grapes, well-kept vineyards, and healthy land” a surprisingly difficult feat within the highly commercialized region of the Ribera del Duero. Viña Almate is the first wine Alfredo ever made - named after himself - and is sourced from different Tempranillo plots grown at altitudes ranging from 700 to 1,000 meters above sea level. This vivid, fresh and lively wine with zero sulfur is a bold and spicy red that manages to keep it real at the same time.
- Alfredo has always been farming organically, and taught himself oenology from reading books.
- Over the past few years Alfredo has sought out old, abandoned parcels around the Duero to make wine from.
- This wine is fermented in a steel vat with 15 to 20 days of maceration with some stems for added grip.
