Juliénas is the furthest north cru of the Beaujolais and has a unique terroir from the better known crus to the south. Yann was inspired to produce Juliénas because the terroir is rather unknown and also because he forged a relationship with a passionate grower of grapes in the village.
As part of the “Grapes from our Friends” series, grapes from this vineyard are purchased “on the vine” - hand harvested by Yann's team and rigorously sorted at the vineyard. Yields are managed to achieve the ripest and healthiest harvest possible. Fermentation is performed through cold carbonic maceration for 14 to 18 days without use of sulfites and with indigenous yeast. Aged in used barrels for 8 months. Racked and bottled at the property without filtration and according to the cycle of the moon.
