Be bold, babe.
Let it be known that 2023 is the year of the bold, powerful red. And we cannot think of a wine more aptly suited for such a year other than Norzagarai’s Carralciego – a structured and leathery blend of Tempranillo (85%) and Garnacha (15%) from Rioja Alavesa. The wine was fermented in stainless steel to keep it lifted, and aged in oak for added structure and spicy tobacco characteristics.
- Santiago Norzagarai grew up in Buenos Aires, away from vineyards but always had a passion for wine.
- Wine was the key ingredient to his social life, so he moved to Spain and studied biology to get a foot in the door of the wine business.
- He moved back to Europe and worked at wineries in Beaujolais and Provence to learn the trade.
- Santiago started making his own wines in Spain in 2010, and his first vintage was released in 2014.
