Peg Leg is a single varietal Chardonnay sourced from the Minnes Vineyard on Sonoma Mountain. The vines were farmed by James’ friend and up-and-coming organic grower, David Rothschild. The fruit for the 2021 vintage was picked a bit earlier, yielding a zesty and surprisingly low alcohol (12%) expression of Chardonnay. Half of the fruit was foot tread and pressed the next day, and the other was directly pressed.

Florèz Wines was founded by James Jelks in 2017, and his process is all about prioritizing old world technique and sensibility.
After completing his degree in Oenology at UC Davis, James studied winemaking all over the world for 10 years before starting his own project in Santa Cruz.
The wine receives its name from the pressing techniques used during the vinification process, “one foot in, one foot out,” as James likes to say.
