Fit for royalty.
Frankova (or Blaufränkisch) is one of the most popular varieties in Eastern Europe. Empress is sourced from volcanic soil, and cellared within an actual volcano itself (seriously, we’re not kidding.) The grapes were partially destemmed and lightly pressed, prior to being fermented and resting in neutral barrels and bottled unfiltered with minimal sulfur. Smoky, berry aromas with minerality aplenty.
- Pivnica Čakov is a craft winery that dates all the way back to 1666, when the Archbishop of Esztergom allowed the Uhnák family to trade in wine and agricultural products.
- All wines here thrive on volcanic soils within the region.
- Frankova was a favorite of Eastern European royalty, including German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, Empress Maria Theresa.
