Story: Martin & Anna Arndorfer run an estate based in Kamptal, an hour northeast of Vienna, where they make several different wines as part of Fuchs und Hase. This particular bottling is done in 85% stainless steel and 15% large neutral barrels. 100% Gruner Veltliner grown on loess soils planted in 1990. Clean and simple in a refreshing way. Lots of minerality.
The couple are both from winemaking families and met in 2000, when they decided to work harvest together in Australia at The Lane in the Adelaide Hills. This became an influential time in their early winemaking careers.
Martin also spent time in Italy working with Fabrizio Luli; the influence of that training is shown in his love of fermenting in barrique, which sets him somewhat apart in Austria.
The Arndorfers commitment to minimal or zero use of sulfur and exploration of skin contact whites makes them outliers in the region. Their wines are rarely approved to have the appellation on the label.
