One of Terah’s (many) interests is skin contact wine, and she has been exploring different varieties and maceration times. The Ramato is 100% Pinot Gris from the Bassi Vineyard in San Luis Obispo. The two block vineyard (2.9 acres) is a mile and half from the ocean, organically farmed and also the source for wines from producers like Scar of the Sea.
Done whole cluster, foot tread and with four days of maceration, the Ramato is the color of a beautiful late summer sunset, and tastes like baked tangerine with integrated acid. It's everything you want from orange wine: texture, complex fruit ranging from citrus to dried apricot and a finish that dances with a touch of ocean minerality.
