This 100% Riesling is from one of Germany’s cult producers, Lauer. The fruit is from one of the Saar’s Grand Cru vineyards, a very unique site that hugs the Mosel River and benefits from a unique microclimate, rendering it warmer than the other sites. The Lauer Riesling Fass 13 Feils GG is one of the most powerful Rieslings from the estate. All wines are vinified in a mixture of stainless steel, fiberglass, and traditional feuder. This wine possesses grandeur without size, coupled with weightless intensity.
- Florian Lauer is currently the head winemaker at Peter Lauer, and he is a legend in the Saar, known for championing the older historic vineyards of that area.
- For decades, Florian fought German Wine Law to keep the names of some of the older vineyards alive, and eventually German wine legislation made changes so the parcels could be recognized.
- In Germany, Grand Cru vineyards are called “Grosses Gewächs,” which means “Great Growths.”
- Florian is known for his terroir wines that eschew the entire Prädikat system.
