Sagrantino di Montefalco Secco 'Pagliaro' 2017

$124.00

The biggest and baddest of ‘em all.

Paolo Bea’s single varietal Sagrantino from the Montefalco region of Umbria is a richly intense, tannic wine that makes Nebbiolo look like a shrinking violet. The vines thrived in the Pagliaro vineyard, a plot situated at 1300 feet above sea level. After harvest, it was aged in a mixture of stainless steel and Slavonian oak. Powerful AF, with black tea, licorice and black pepper aromas.
  • The Bea family has roots in Montefalco that date as far back as the 1500s.
  • Today, Paolo and his sons Giuseppe and Giampiero assist him with his operations both in the vineyard and vat room.
  • The entire property comprises 15-hectares, 5 of which are dedicated to vineyards.
  • The vineyards are all farmed organically, and the wines are vinified without fining or filtration.

Connects with:

  • Cellaring a bottle.
  • Mushroom pizza.
  • Duck sausage.
