A happy accident.
2021 was a rough year for a lot of folks in the Loire like Julien Pineau because of catastrophic frosts. But Julien is a smart dude and was able to pivot by sourcing Colombard from Domaine Jean Daugé. The Colombard was pressed at the domaine then aged in 50% barrel and 50% vat. A dynamic, nuanced and lovely expression of this underrepresented varietal.
- Julien Pineau initially studied sociology in college, but ultimately found wine after working harvest with Lise and Bertrand Jousset’s in Montlouis.
- Minimal sulfur was added at the beginning of fermentation, but none at bottling.
- The vines thrive on a mixture of clay and limestone soils.
