Liquid treasure from an Orange Wine legend.
Slatnik is an 80/20 split of Chardonnay to Tokaj Friulano from Friulian all star winemaker, Radikon. Stanko Radikon was one of the maverick winemakers in Northern Italy to craft Orange wines with a distinctive Slovenian sensibility, and his wines have catapulted to meteoric fame on a global scale. Slatnik is from his “S” line, which sees a shorter maceration period (10 to 14 days) prior to resting in Friulian French oak botti for a year on the lees. A complex, layered, and otherworldly expression of skin contact wine that tastes like something truly special.
- Stanko Radikon’s grandfather, Franz Mikulus, planted the sloping parcels with Ribolla Gialla, one of the local regions favorite grapes.
- In 1948 his parents took over the vineyard and planted Merlot, Tocai Friulano and Pinot Grigio.
- Radikon’s age-worthy wines are done in the same style as how Stanko’s grandfather made wine in the 1930s.
- Though Stanko tragically passed away in 2016, his legacy continues through the work of his family and a celebration of his life one day out of the year called Zivijo.
