I met Alex in the Loire at our last fair and the most sterile setting of them all, Levée de la Loire. After a haze of crowded tables and reaching over throngs to snag a taste of culty wines, tasting with Alex was the opposite. No line; nobody in the US had ever imported his wines (they were only being sold in Paris until we brought them to the shop). His wines were simple, not based on hype. But they were also some of my favorites from the entire trip. They're very representative of the region. Alex is based in Noizay (Vouvray Appellation), not far from Frantz Saumon, and this is his first commercial vintage. We can't wait to see where he goes as a producer.
