My 2022 trifecta: a wine that combines my old love for Riesling, newfound appreciation for Chenin, and unusual obsession with chickens.
Minimalist Chenin from the Loire.
The Alexandre Giquel's 'Gallus' is liquid proof that less is more. Alexandre is one of the few vignerons within the Loire Valley to farm his vines entirely without tractors - he uses horses instead. The vines are only sprayed with herbal teas that Alexandre sprays by hand via a backpack, and the Chenin Blanc vines are about 90 years old. A heady combination of stones, apples and citrus zest swarm about in this Domestique exclusive. The ultimate wine for Chablis-lovers who want to branch out!
