Muscadet with moxie.
The Excelsior is sourced from a single parcel of very old Melon de Bourgogne vines planted in 1936. The fruit was pressed in a pneumatic press, then gravity fed to underground vats lined with glass tiles for vinification. The wine rested for 3 years on its lees, for that zesty Muscadet feel we all know and love. An ageworthy, sophisticated wine.
- Pierre-Marie and Marie Luneau are in charge of running this 39-hectare estate in Le Landreau, a village in the heart of Muscadet.
- The harvest is done by hand, which is impressive and a rarity for the region.
- Initially, Domaine Pierre Luneau-Papin was a whopping 50 hectares, but they reduced the size of the property so they could convert to Organic and Biodynamic viticulture.
- Aging a wine sur lie often results in delicious yeasty flavors.
