From the hills of Campania, Cantina Giardino is a collective of six friends who source their fruit from historic, old-vine plots of indigenous grapes, oftentimes owned and tended by farmers at risk of abandoning their families’ plots. To me, their macerated wines are their most interesting – this one is 70% Coda di Volpe and 30% Greco. The Coda di Volpe is on the younger side, and Greco vines are 80 years old. The grapes macerate for six days on the skins, then co-ferment and age for 18 months in chestnut casks. All that technique sounds like a lot, but this iteration is downright tropical and juicy.
