No hate on Champagne (like, at all), but given how much of a shitshow 2021 ended up being, we'll be chugging pet nat out of the bottle this New Year's Eve. We thought 2021 would be full of in-person events and a return of Pet Nat & Pupusas, but instead we'll be sitting on our couches in quasi-quarantine (again).
To brighten the view, we've commissioned an original poster commemorating the chaos of this year from graphic artist Elena Boils. Elena is a London-based, Mexican-born artist. Her colorful, dynamic designs felt like the perfect mix of chaos and joy for a year full of hope, disappointment, and everything in between.
Here's a little Q&A with the artist:
Your work has so much colour and vibrancy, and features lots of food + drink (which we love). How do those concepts fit into your everyday life?
EB: I think a lot of my work is inspired by stuff I love to make and eat. There's something very aesthetic about food, I've always been drawn to still life compositions but more recently been adding movement and energy to the foods and drinks I depict.
Do you drink wine (or spirits or beer)? And if so, what do you like?
EB: I love wine, I think weather depending in the summer a dry white wine and in winter a red, love a Rioja.
