Quite possibly one of the best kept secrets and greatest value German Rieslings you’ll ever find, this village wine is sourced from the single Grand Cru Kupp Vineyard. The vines are ungrafted, and around 70 years old. The Lauer Senior 6 is done in the old school style, with just a little bit of residual sugar to counter the wine’s acidity. Not quite dry, but not quite sweet – this Riesling is in a class of its own.
- Florian Lauer is currently the head winemaker at Peter Lauer, and he is a legend in the Saar, known for championing the older historic vineyards of that area.
- The little green circles on the labels of Florian’s wines mean the wine is considered a “village wine.”
- This wine is called “Senior” as a tribute to Florian’s grandfather.
- The vines are sourced from one of the cooler parcels of Florian’s holdings, lending them a very racy acidity and balance.
