It’s always the quiet ones you have to watch out for. Such is the case with Karl and Helga Maglock’s “Wald Terrassen,” a blend of 50% Riesling and 50% Welschriesling, sourced from vines that were planted in 1976 and 1994. The vines thrived in a steeply terraced, heavily forested vineyard that was exceedingly difficult to work. So much so, in fact, that only 20 cases of this wine are produced a year. The resulting wine is soft, gentle, and mineral driven, like a quietly flowing stream.
- The Vineyard Project was begun by importer Vom Boden in the fall of 2019; its aim was to connect overlooked vineyards with soulful growers.
- The process is about the people behind the wine, and showcases terroirs from Germany’s Mosel to Austria’s Burgenland.
- Vineyard Project 003 is their first Austrian project (the other editions have thus far been in Germany.)
