Franz Saumon is the ultimate Chenin-whisperer of the Loire, and Le Chapitre is sourced from one of the best terroirs of Montlouis, with a mixture of clay and tufa soils. The wine derives its name, which translates to “The Chapter,” because a group of Monks of the Marmoutier Abbey in Vouvray cultivated the vines there. The vines never suffer from frost here and ripen early.

Frantz Saumon found his way into the wine industry after a career in Forestry in both France and Quebec.
In 2002, he decided to switch paths and start a winery in Montlouis sur Loire in 2002.
He works very closely with his partner, Marie Thibault, and the two have their own negocée label which is in its infancy.
