LEGACY AND NEW GENERATIONS: Alessandra Bera is a force of grace and taste. She sits at the head of the table during meals and has no problem leading the team. It's her will and persistence that has made an incredible name for the estate, especially in the natural wine world, a realm in which Moscato is not as well regarded.

The year of my visit marked a special harvest, it was the first that Vittoria became officially full-time with the estate and it was the first vintage without Alessandra and Gianluigi's father, who passed away last February.

Winemaking is often romanticized, so it was interesting to see how estates continue, watch traditions be carried on in real-time, and witness as a young woman manages a harvest team for the first time in her life. Vittoria dealt with opinionated men with resilience and persistence she likely learned from her mother, and like most women in roles of leadership, earned respect through exhibiting hard work.

The wine selected for Wine Club is what we drank the most during harvest, and was typically the aperitif wine before lunch or dinner was ready. All the Bera wines are bottled under pressure with a small amount of residual sugar that then creates a dry wine with a slight spritz. This slightly nutty, aromatic, spritzy wine went wonderfully with roasted peppers and we had it with summer bagna cauda, but tis the season for the hot winter version.
