In 2021, Matthias Orsett finally found a place to set out on his own. If I were getting ready to plant some vines, I too would be compelled to settle in the sun-soaked slopes of the Valais in the Rhône River valley.
Matthias got his start with the likes of Jura's Houillon and Overnoy, no doubt taking their unmistakable penchant for low-extraction reds and resonant whites into his own practice. Each of Matthias' wines are bottled as single site and single varietal — alas, there are always too few of them to go around.
While the alpine climate of Valais welcomes those Jura varietals, Matthias challenges those who encounter his wines to give just as much care to the Swiss grapes, too. (See: Gamaret and Garanoir).
Would be remiss not to mention: he DJs, too.
