A Hand-picked, Micro-production. zienda Agricola Bertolino cultivates grapes, olives and tomatoes on a total of 2 hectares spread throughout the rippling viticultural dunes that traces the coast of Marsala; an ancient port in the westernmost corner of Sicily where the local dialect sounds more like arabic or spanish and curried cous-cous with deep red fish broth and fried butterflied sardines is what’s on the table.

Brothers Salvatore and Gabriele unexpectedly inherited their grandmother Ida’s half-hectare plot of 30 year old Catarratto and its surrounding olive grove in 2015 Having had completely distant life goals, they were fortunate to have several helpful winemaker family friends, including Vincenzo of Vite ad Ovest, who hosted them to make wine in his cellar collective.

Marsala is historically known for its fortified wine production made from local grapes, but many of the local vignaioli have been making dry and crisp varietal wines for decades. As the region is undergoing a natural micro-producer revival, it has beckoned wild expressions of Grillo and Catarratto, but the Bertolino Brothers continue to pursue complexity through simplicity by letting the varieties speak for themselves of the scalding sun, saline soils and high salty winds from the sea.

100% Grillo, Two days maceration on the skins, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Aged on lees 9 months.
