Founded in the 1990s, Il Farneto sits in the hills between Scandiano and Canossa in Emilia-Romagna. Though not far from the industrial centers of Castellarano and Sassuolo, the estate's elevated position and diverse landscape create a surprisingly secluded environment rich in biodiversity. From the beginning, the winery has focused on sustainable farming, working organically and embracing practices that allow the vineyards to thrive with minimal intervention.
Made primarily from Lambrusco Grasparossa and other local varieties, this sparkling red comes from 20-year-old vines planted in clay and chalk soils at 300 meters in elevation. Fermented with native yeasts and bottled with fresh grape juice to trigger a second fermentation in bottle, it is produced in the ancestral method and remains unfined and unfiltered.
The result is a vibrant, lightly sparkling red with notes of sour cherry and a hint of licorice. Bright acidity, gentle tannins, and a savory mineral streak keep the wine energetic and refreshing, making it equally at home alongside charcuterie, pizza, or a summer cookout...we had to include a Lambrusco!
