Founded by brothers Paolo and Michele Latoracca and their father Giuseppe, Cantine Latoracca has been crafting authentic, organically farmed Aglianico del Vulture since 2003. Working with massale-selection vines rooted in the volcanic soils of Venosa, the family emphasizes terroir and minimal intervention to produce wines that capture the distinctive character of Mount Vulture.

Aglianico is one of Italy's oldest and greatest native grape varieties, often mentioned alongside Nebbiolo as one of the country's noble red grapes. While Nebbiolo is celebrated for its perfume and elegance, Aglianico is its darker, more powerful cousin — known for high acidity, firm tannins, volcanic minerality, and an incredible ability to age. Grown primarily in Campania and Basilicata, the grape reaches its highest expression on the volcanic slopes of Mount Vulture, where it develops aromas of red roses, sour cherry, plum, herbs, leather, and a subtle smoky character.

The Liscone comes from 35-year-old massale-selection vines planted in black volcanic clay and tuff. After a long natural fermentation, it spends 18 months in stainless steel followed by a year in old French oak. The result is a wine that captures everything that makes Aglianico special: dark fruit, savory complexity, bright acidity, and the unmistakable mineral signature of volcanic soils. While Aglianico is often thought of as a wine built for decades in the cellar and hearty winter meals, this bottling has a freshness and lift that make it surprisingly compelling even in the heat of summer. It's structured without being heavy — a reminder that powerful wines can still feel vibrant and alive.
