About the Wine: Entrecantos is Roberto Rodriguez's passion project in the Quiroga-Bibei zone of Ribeira Sacra. The estate spans 2.6 hectares at some of the highest vineyards in the region, from 740 to 780 meters above sea level, on pebble, slate, and clay soils. Roberto, a gourmand turned vigneron, brings his deep knowledge of Galician food and wine to every step, combining meticulous attention to detail with a creative flair for experimentation.
The fruit comes from the Barcelas vineyard, the same plot used for his white Martiñolo. It is 100% Mencía, with 30% whole clusters, fermented with native yeasts, and aged in used oak foudre and barriques under a veil of flor before six months of rest in stainless steel. Bottled in 2021, annual production is 3,200 bottles.
This is a wonderful example of a more powerful red from the region, showing dark berry fruit, spice, and minerality. Medium-bodied with abundant dusty tannins, fresh acidity, and a rustic, earthy nose with subtle animal notes, it balances power and elegance. At 12% alcohol, it reflects the warmer, more inland sites, making it a rare glimpse of high-elevation Ribeira Sacra.
