Having spent multiple visits across multiple months in the Veneto seeking out a
talented, truly 100% organic, hand-farmed Prosecco partner, we take great
pride in our relationship with the Durante family. Obviously, there are flashier,
trendier and more well-known names, but the fastidiousness of the organic
viticulture and the purity of the wines on this property is all we could ever wish
for. Father Ivano Durante and his son, Michele, personally attend to all grape
growing and winemaking on the 15-hectare parcel at the foot of the Dolomites.
In addition to the family name, the property is also known by its ancient title, Le
Spinee (french for "the spine"), because for a few centuries starting in 400 A.D.,
this same land was a French monastery in which monks vinified an especially
well-regarded-by-locals lean, mineral, petillant naturel-like wine from a thin
"spine" of gravel/alluvial soils that forms the current location of this farm.
