Grapes: 80% Sangiovese, 20% Merwah

Sangiovese (80%) from 6-year-old vines in Bousit (800m) is blended with 20% Merwah from over 150-year-old indigenous vines in the Qannoubine Valley (1,600m).

Merwah is an ancient Lebanese white grape, central to the country’s winemaking history and recently revived in modern production. Known for its citrus, almond, and nutty notes, it thrives in Lebanon’s high-altitude vineyards, bringing freshness, texture, and vibrant acidity to this blend.

The grapes are pressed and fermented together, then bottled before fermentation is complete to create a dry pétillant naturel sparkling wine.

This producer was first introduced to me by Vitalii, who worked at Domestique in the 2019 — his Moldovan roots gave him a broader perspective on wine than I've ever had and introduced me to regions and wines I'd never think of.

Lebanon’s has over a 7,000-year winemaking history: the country produces around 10.5 million bottles annually, exporting about half, which is roughly 0.35% of California’s production for context. This wine is bright and juicy with lovely texture for a sparkling, a modern take on Lebanese wine, and pairs beautifully with heavily spiced or grilled meats
