Ariane Lesne has 3.5 hectares of Pineau d'Aunis located throughout the Coteaux du Vendômois. Ariane is working differently than the previous owner of Domaine de Montrieux (Emile Hérédia) by employing shorter macerations and longer elevage. The Grand Gousier (named for the Francois Rabelais character) is from the oldest parcels ranging from 55 to 120 years old. It undergoes an 18 month élevage with another year in bottle. Aromatic with structure and mouthwatering tannins, because sometimes you want to drink and eat food...

10 weeks maceration . No punching of the cap but a few pumping over while the fermentation. Once the fermentation phase is done, no more intervention till the devatting.

Sulfites 2 gr/hl just after the malo-lactique fermentation July 2018

No chaptalisation, no yeast added

Bottled on 28th August 2018 with a very light filtration.

Tasting notes

A hint of warm spices and pepper overwhelmed by black berries aromas.

The mouth is subtle and very fresh, the tannins are present but very fine.

As always, this wine needs a bit of ageing but is already perfect to drink with meat, red or white.
